Beaumont Hospital Annual Charity Sweepstakes 2002

This year's charity sweepstakes took place on Monday 28th October in Leopardstown Race Course. Photographs of this great event are below.

“And at the post, Strike Alliance Takes the Glory”

Hayley Prout and Strike Alliance finally managed to be first home in the Beaumont Hospital Annual Charity Sweepstakes. After a number of close calls and a second place last year, Hayley lead Strike Alliance Home. It wasn't all plain sailing for Hayley though'.

Hayley Prout on 'Stike Alliance' won first place at Leopardstown

Pagan Streams, riden by Shane Duffy burst into the lead at the start and by the half way mark was well ahead of the field. It looked like Shane, whose father Paddy was riding Bould Thady, might be able to do the impossible and lead from start to finish but as he took the last corner, the Jim Bolger trained Feadog with Adrian Taylor on board had made up good ground and was nearly neck and neck with Pagan Streams. With the line in sight, Hayley and Strike Alliance were flying on the outside and as the line approached anyone could have taken the race. Hayley found that last burst in Strike Alliance to finish ahead of Feadog with Pagan Streams pipped into third.

The thrilling finish kept the crowd entertained after a great Bank Holiday day of racing. Elsewhere in the field, Trevor Miles was the first “Over 40” home on Lucky Player and the husband and wife dual between Eddie and Daire Murray resulted in a win for Eddie on Red Tantrum.
Beaumont Hospital Foundation would like to thank all those who supported the race, especially the jockeys who trained hard and the owners and trainers who allowed the horses to be released for the day. To all the staff at Leopardstown Race Course and to race organiser, Martin O'Donnell.

The final thank you is to our race sponsor BCM Hanby Wallace. We look forward to working with you all again next year.
