Beaumont Hospital has an immediate requirement for the purchase
of Computerised X-ray equipment for use in Cardiology and Radiology
departments of the hospital. The current equipment at Beaumont
is based on technology developed in the eighties. In simple terms,
this equipment does not have the capability to provide the quality
of information required with modern surgical intervention and
treatment.
Interventional procedures are designed to reduce the need for
open heart surgery on patients. Known as keyhole procedures, it
is possible to perform a number of operations that previously
required surgery. Keyhole procedures can be used to open blockages
in blood vessels such as coronary arteries, or to remove abnormal
vessels in areas such as the brain.
The main benefit from this technique is that it removes the need
for large scale operations which consequently reduces the length
of hospital stay, thus freeing up much needed hospital beds.
The Department of Health has pledged in excess of £750,000
to our appeal. We require a further £200,000 to achieve
our target of £1.2million, and we are particularly calling
on Irish business to support our appeal. If you wish to support
this appeal you can make
a donation, or if there is any other way you feel you can
help then please email us at friends@bhf.ie.
