"I can’t begin to tell you what the operation has meant to me. During my time in Beaumont when I was very much alone seeing as I came up from Cork, the staff on St. Anne’s Ward became my friends. They were there to reassure me and keep me company when I was low. I still pop back to say hello when I have to go for check-ups and they always make time to have a chat and say hello."

St Joseph’s Day Care Hospital for Older Adults

Care of the Elderly Programme

Beaumont Hospital is predominantly an adult hospital, although it does have a children's ward - St. Raphael’s. North Dublin has one of the country's largest populations of older people living in its community and this demographic places added pressure on the hospital to provide extra care for this vulnerable sector of society.

In 2004,  St. Joseph’s Hospital in Raheny was incorporated into the Beaumont Hospital campus. Being at a remove from the main hospital, it is a quieter division of Beaumont making it more suitable for older adults.

Many elderly people who currently attend Beaumont Hospital would greatly benefit if a Day Care Hospital was available to them. A facility of this kind would allow them to present daily for treatment rather than having to stay overnight in Beaumont and would have the added advantage of bringing care into the community and alleviating pressure on hospital beds.

With the support of a very generous donation to the Foundation of €1.5 million, made by a relative of a late friend of BHF - we have been able realise this project on a site situated on the grounds of St Joseph's Hospital.

The building has been designed. Planning permission has been granted. Staffing of the new facility has been committed and the building work has begun.

The new St Josephs Day Care Hospital is expected to open before the close of 2013.
