Meet Some of Our Fundraisers

Pearse Walpole

Pearse WalpoleI started running marathons as I had made a promise to my late father that I would run a marathon before I was 40. I ran my first marathon at 39 for a large well known charity organization who basically took the funds raised and ignored their fundraisers before, during and after the marathon. When I decided to carry on running marathons I sought out an organization that I believed would be different. I have known plenty of people who unfortunately had to spend time in Beaumont Hospital but they have always commented on the friendship and care they received during their stay. Therefore I decided that I would run for the BHF, I was delighted to find that not only was I fundraising for a worthy cause but that all the members of the foundation were very friendly, concerned for their fundraisers health and well being, and also kept in touch after the event. I have since completed 5 marathons for the foundation and I am proud to say that in some little way that my efforts have helped BHF to create a better environment for the patients in their care.

Dorothy Lynch

Dorothy Lynch"I was diagnosed with a Brain Aneurysm in 1999 and I was so thankful that the operation was so successful I decided to fund-raise for Beaumont Hospital. In my years fund-raising I feel everyone is a winner - the hospital gains with my fund-raising and the people supporting the events gain satisfaction and enjoyment from events such as Golf Classics, hunts, head shaves etc. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported my efforts over the years."

Conor McKenna

Conor McKenna"Having been so well catered for by the staff of Beaumont Hospital, becoming a volunteer for the BHF was a very easy choice. Through the BHF I have enjoyed great and engaging challenges meeting amazing people along the way. But most rewarding of all is the knowledge that, by volunteering for the BHF we all in some small way contribute to Beaumont Hospital and the invaluable work they perform. Thanks David, Noreen and Laura for such a great opportunity."

Louise Cheevers

Louise Cheevers"I was really excited about going on my first trip for the Foundation. I had never been to Croatia before. I met my fellow travellers the week before the trip, they seemed a very pleasant and agreeable group and that's exactly how it turned out. It was dark when we landed in Dubrovnik but morning revealed a beautiful vista, the hotel was overlooking warm aquamarine water in a sheltered bay. The trip was a walking challenge to raise funds for the Foundation. The money raised is to be used for patient care within the Hospital. During the walking challenges we covered between 12km and 20km per day and we saw places of historic importance and natural beauty. Some of our time was spent on the Island of Korcula, another very picturesque place. Anyone interest in doing one of the many interesting challenges organised by the Foundation team can look up the website. I feel that the funds raised do make a real difference to the lives of the patients in Beaumont Hospital."
